Beauty Blender Dupes

Looking back to over a year ago, I had no idea what a beauty blender was and now I can't go a day without using one, well not the real thing but instead one of the fab alternatives I have discovered.

The original beauty blender comes in at around £16-£18 in the UK, which I've always felt is a lot of money for a sponge and although they look amazing and I hear nothing but solid things, I still wanted to find cheaper alternatives that may potentially work just as well. There are a ton of brands who now offer beauty sponges that look identical to the original, ranging from Cosmopolitan, Models Own, W7 and Real Techniques.

Today I will be sharing with you my selection of blending sponges that I think work fantastically and they cost a fraction of the price you'd pay for the real thing.

The first sponge I actually picked up on eBay, after searching around for the best price and seeing what sellers feedback was like I went for the Teardrop Beauty Makeup Blender which cost me less than £4.00 with free shipping from London. What I particularly love about this dupe, and the reason its my favourite, is that it arrives looking quite small and dense yet when put into water, it doubles in size and creates the perfect tool for blending makeup into your skin. I feel like this is the closest I have found to the original, in that it expands in the same way and generally feels the same to touch. I've had this blender for months and I'm yet in need of a new one, although it is looking a little tatty, why do they stain so easily?!

Next up is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge, retailing at £5.99 available from most places such as Boots, Superdrug and Feel Unique. I picked this one up whilst on a day out in London, I was really eager to try it as it looked amazing in so many youtubers videos, as well as the fact that I really love the Real Techniques brushes that I've tried. When I first used this, I really didn't understand the hype and I just couldn't get it to work for me. When submerged in water this one doesn't expand as well as the previous eBay purchase, which disappointed me. However I have found that this one is really nice to use either dry or slightly damp, I particularly like the different shaped edges, it makes it really easy to fit the sponge into any area of your face.

Lastly is a very recent addition to my collection and its the W7 Power Puff, I actually have two of these now, one very dirty and a lovely brand new green one. The Power Puff is pretty inexpensive too, I think I paid around £3.00 for mine so it is the cheapest out of my options. I find this one works really well and is very similar to the eBay sponge, the same shape, style and blendability. What I really liked about this one is that it specifically says on the front of the box that it is latex free which can be something really important to some people due to allergies. I actually had to ask the Real Techniques team via Twitter what their sponge was made from as there is no indication on the packaging or website (rubbish!)

Do you use a beauty sponge in your daily makeup routine? If so, let me know which is your favourite in the comments, I'm always up for trying more!

  1. The original BB is amazing! The best dupe I have found is definitely the RT Complexion Sponge. I always apply my make-up with a sponge.

Definitely have to try the W7 and Topshop ones though!

  2. I have used the Cosmopolitan one, but I think it's time to branch out. I'm going to give the W7 Power Puff a go. I hate having to walk to get it wet though - I am so lazy.

    1. Haha I'm also slightly lazy! I see some people using the Body Shop face mists to damp them, just seems expensive when water is free (kind of) haha! x

  6. I use the original beauty blender and absolutely love it, it's completely changed my makeup routine! I agree though, it's so expensive for what is essentially just a sponge ha! I've just ordered a pack of four monster sponges from amazon so i can compare the quality xx

  7. I've gone through a couple of dupes myself, but the original Beauty Blender hasn't been beaten for me just yet! I've tried one from Primark, eBay and the RT one but none of them matched up. I think I'm going to have to order the eBay one from this post and see if that works well for me! Great post, thanks for sharing x

  16. I have the RT sponge and even though I don't use it all that often, I've been pretty impressed- Although I've not tried the Beauty Blender as I'm not sure I can justify £16 on a sponge so I don't have much to compare it to!

  23. I absolutely love my Beauty Blender but it's getting a little bit old now :( It doesn't cope too well with being stuffed into bags during travelling whilst it's still a bit damp. I really need a new one so I'm so tempted to try a dupe! I might check out W7's, I didn't even know they made one :)
